Overall in interstellar i think that the most important aspect of context would have to be social. I think that the way cooper and the teachers interact is extremely interesting and it was something that i didn't notice the first few times i saw the film. It does truly reflect the class gap that we have today and that is often referred to in the news and on social media. much of social media today is very political and consists of governmental choices and the many disagreements with it for example things like mansion tax and political parties having an excessive amount of members being very rich - this shows how they do not represent the majority yet they are making decisions for us.
Historical context did not come up in this film due to the fact that the film is set in the future and as there are some references to modern day they are only in the beginning of the film and the rest of it is set in space.
Cultural context also doesn't come up very much. There was a little bit to say on it about the clothing that the characters wore and how it reflected present day stereotypes but other than that the film doesn't have very many cultural references because a large amount of the film is set in space.
What it means to me?
When i first saw the film i would have said that the context doesn't affect me at all but now that i have done research into and understood the potential meaning of the conflict between the teachers and cooper it does effect me. it showed me how the society that we live in today is far from perfect and there needs to be a huge amount of change before we get to a point of equality and equal representation. It also showed me how the political system that we have in England is essentially flawed, having the rich minority representing the poorer majority just doesn't make any sense.
