Primary - going directly to the source/doing the research yourself
secondary - using someone else's research/something that exist already
Primary research done this year so far:
Otto Bathurst - Otto Bathurst came in and talked about the media industry. he told us ways to get into the industry and what is needed to get jobs in the industry. he also talked about how he go to where he is today. This was extremely useful in showing me that the media industry isn't as hard to get into as i first thought.
Focus Group - The focus group was used to find out qualitative data on my Ident and to find out what needed to be improved to be the most enticing and memorable Ident possible. The focus group was very useful as it got outside perspectives on my ident with a good amount of detail in what should be changed.
Survey monkey - I did a survey on my Ident and asked members of the class to fill it out. This was very good at getting quantitate data and gave me a good idea of what needed to be changed shown by a larger group of people compared to the focus group and in much shorter of a time.
Secondary Research done so far:
Job roles, careers and further training - this consists of several tasks but about similar things. the secondary research consisted of researching into job roles and the skills and qualities needed for these jobs. It was very useful because of how quick getting this information was. it was also evident that whoever got this information was well versed in the industry and the information they gave was very detailed.
Overall i think that i found secondary research the most useful as the speed in which i got the information was much quicker than if i was carrying out primary research. Also the people who were carrying out this research seemed very professional in what information was included so the source seems more detailed than what i could get if i was carrying out primary research.
Primary research:
pros
- you are able to get information that is designed for what you need specifically
- You can decide how to do it and what information you want to receive e.g. surveys, focus group etc and whether you want to get quantitative data or qualitative data.
-Can get the most up to date information
Cons
-can be expensive
-time consuming
Secondary research:
Pros
-quick and easy to obtain
-the information given will be given by people who are well versed in the subject and more knowledgeable than me in the - subject
-Often can be done without cost
Cons
-Information could be out of date
-not made for what you are researching so it might not have exactly what you need
secondary - using someone else's research/something that exist already
